Starman daughters land Goodwood double for owner/breeder David Ward

Three-year old daughter's of Starman, Velvet Goldmine and Sound and Vision, won in the colours of David Ward at Goodwood on Friday.

Velvet Goldmine, out of Mayorstone (Exceed and Excel) broke her maiden at the fourth time of asking when winning over 5f in Class 4 company at Goodwood. Running in a hood for the first time, the chestnut filly settled noticeably better than her previous runs. She travelled well throughout the race, and was ridden along 2 furlongs out to hit the front with half a furlong to go. She continued to extend her lead, winning comfortably by 3 and a half lengths.

Sound and Vision quickly made it a double for owner/breeder David Ward when winning over 6f in the following race. The daughter of Starman out of Commodus (Australia) took a keen hold towards the rear of the field. She travelled smoothly into the race 2 furlongs out. Pressed for the lead within the final half a furlong, Sound and Vision found more to beat the 5/2f by half a length.
