Double: Two-year-old fillies handle heavy going at Haydock

Two-year-old fillies Crazy Cubana and Faith In Florence scored a double for the team when winning consecutive races at Haydock on Friday.

Clearly well suited to the heavy going at Haydock, Crazy Cubana raced prominently in the hands of Kieran Shoemark and travelled strongly throughout this seven-furlong Nursery Handicap. With a lead of two lengths going into the final two-furlongs, she and two rivals pulled nine lengths clear of the field, and Crazy Cubana kept on strongly to win over the second- and third-placed horses by two and a quarter lengths, with the fourth-placed horse a further nine lengths back. This marks back-to-back wins for Crazy Cubana, as well as her third career success for owners West Paces Racing.

There was little time to wait before Faith In Florence broke her maiden when making all in the Class 4 EBF Fillies' Maiden Stakes run over six-furlongs. Adopting the same front running style as her stable mate, Faith In Florence travelled strongly and had her rivals under pressure from three furlongs out. Unchallenged, this two-year-old daughter of Mehmas out of Charlotte Rosina (Choisir) won comfortably by seven furlongs. Congratulations to her owner Mr James.
